CODE ROOD is een kunstinitiatief in Arnhem bestaande uit vijf kunstenaars. Op een intuïtieve, gastvrije wijze organiseren we een dynamisch programma met experimentele exposities. We willen ruimte bieden voor kunstenaars om zich zonder commerciële druk te kunnen presenteren. Omdat we gebruik maken van onconventionele ruimtes en concepten komen kunstenaars en bezoekers op onverwachte wijze met elkaar in contact.

Tot de zomer van 2017 was CODE ROOD gesitueerd op het voormalige militairterrein Buitenplaats Koningsweg, aan de Noordrand van Arnhem. Vanwege de herontwikkeling van het gebied is CODE ROOD op zoek gegaan naar een andere locatie. Sinds november 2017 houden we kantoor in een kelderruimte in het centrum van Arnhem. Vanuit dit zenuwcentrum ontwikkelen we nieuwe events binnen of buiten deze ruimte, Arnhem, Nederland en daarbuiten.

CODE ROOD (Engl.: RED ALERT) is an art initiative of five artists based in Arnhem, that offers a dynamic program of experimental exhibitions. We act in a practical, intuitive and hospitable way. Our mission is to offer space to artists where they can focus on their art without any commercial expectations. Because we aim to make use of unconventional spaces, artists and audience are often confronted with unexpected relationships between art and its environment. At the same time the accessibility of the locations we use facilitates an approachable experience of art for a broad audience.

Until summer 2017 CODE ROOD was based on a former military compound: Buitenplaats Koningsweg in the north of Arnhem. Here the members of CODE ROOD were in charge of the different locations and spaces: Portiersloge (Mirjam Geelink), Kleine Kapel (Brieke Drost), Guestroom (Oscar Lourens, Sibylle Eimermacher, Jeroen Glas) and Transmute24 (BiOP).

Due to redevelopment of the area in summer 2017, CODE ROOD left the Buitenplaats Koningsweg in search for new possibilities. Since November 2017 we have obtained a space in the city centre of Arnhem; a small basement that is part of the Kunstplint at the Broerenstraat. From here we will start exploring the opportunities in creating space for art, in- and outside the basement, the city of Arnhem and the Netherlands.

CODE ROOD organizes a cultural event in the obtained spaces every last Saturday of the month (also called: CODE ROOD).

Other initiatives are welcome to join our activities. We have regularly worked together with: Stichting Verborgen Landschap (Hans Jungerius, Caro Delsing), Proposal Base (Jeroen Glas, BiOP), Radartoren (Harmjan Roeles), KEET (Anke van den Brink, Mireille Tap), Garage Royal (Tijs, Lisa), Stookhuisje and MIR (Alphons ter Avest, Rob Groot Zevert).
